The Rules in Rome by A.L. Sowards

The Rules in Rome by A.L. Sowards

A Thrilling World War 2 Historical, with a Dash of Romance I admit, historicals aren’t my favorite reads. But when they’re really, really good, I like them. This one is really good. Review + Giveaway: Gone for a Soldier by Marsha Ward

I probably only read five or six historical novels a year. While I don’t dislike them, I’m just usually more into contemporary or speculative fiction. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

I do believe this book may make my all-time favorite list. I was so captivated by this story. The idea of having death as the narrator was intriguing. The characterizations were amazing. Her life was so hard, and yet she discovered beauty in the people and things around her. She grew into a young woman of strength and courage. One of my favorite […]

Isabelle Webb: Legend of the Jewel by N.C. Allen

Isabelle Webb: Legend of the Jewel by N.C. Allen

It definitely has a historical setting, just after the American Civil War and the assassination of President Lincoln.  It also has mystery and suspense, as Isabelle and her friends chase after the elusive Jewel of Zeus. There’s some romance—just a little, but it’s definitely a plot point. But there are some fantasy elements, as well, with the mystical happenings surrounding that missing jewel… But however you classify it, it was pretty good. This is […]
