Minnie Kim: Seoul Demon by Ali Cross

Minnie Kim: Seoul Demon by Ali Cross

Loving this Series This is book three in the Minnie Kim: Vampire Girl series. I am loving the entire series. It’s cute. It’s fun. But there’s also drama and suspense. There are vampires, after all. [br] [br] In this book, Minnie and her parents have a tentative truce—making Minnie hope she can win back their love and acceptance of her vampire status. They travel to Korea to meet family and to help them with a ghost problem. [br] [br] The ghost isn’t the only problem […]

The Lady in the Coppergate Tower by Nancy Campbell Allen

The Lady in the Coppergate Tower by Nancy Campbell Allen

Another great steampunk fairy tale! This is the third steampunk fairy tale romance from Nancy Campbell Allen. We start in London but this time we travel to Romania and you know what that means—vampire legends and dark magic! Hazel and Sam’s romance weaves through this story of revealed family secrets, intrigue and betrayal, with a healthy dose of steampunk. [br] What did I think? I loved all the steampunk elements—they added to the story without getting bogged down in the tech. The characters were well-written […]

Stone of Inheritance by Melissa McShane

Stone of Inheritance by Melissa McShane

Great Second Book in the Series! This is book 2 in The Company of Strangers series. We pick up a few months after book 1, with the group of scrappers becoming closer and learning more about each other. In this adventure, they need a particular magical knife to help with the ritual that will free Alaric’s people. They are outbid at an auction, then forced by the woman who purchased the knife to go reclaim a powerful artifact that belonged to her family. [br] [br] […]

Silver in the Blood by Jessica Day George

Silver in the Blood by Jessica Day George

Excellent Historical Fantasy I’m used to reading Jessica Day George’s middle grade and YA fantasy books—that have a lighter feel to them. This one is darker and more violent, and deals with vampires and werewolves. I loved the story. I thought it was a great twist to the whole vampire/werewolf tradition, and a wonderful basis for why most stories have vamps and were as enemies. Loved the ending. [br] [br] The characters were interesting and believable. The plot was wonderful. I was enthralled and stayed […]

The Iron Trial by Cassandra Claire & Holly Black

The Iron Trial by Cassandra Claire & Holly Black

Love This Book! I love Cassandra Clare. I don’t now how I missed this series. Book 1 was great. You think the main character is going to be the hero, and then there’s a twist and it’s amazing! And isn’t that cover awesome!!! Can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Some paranormal violence, on the level of Harry Potter. In fact, there are several similarities to HP: it’s a year at magic school, there’s a bad guy that everyone is afraid to […]

Company of Strangers by Melissa McShane

Company of Strangers by Melissa McShane

A New Fantasy Series! One of my favorite authors, Melissa McShane, has started a new fantasy series. What I like about all of her books is that there is a strong female protagonist. Although this book follows the adventures of an unlikely crew of characters, we definitely see things from Sienne’s perspective. As a fledgling wizard who has left her nobility status behind to become a scrapper, Sienne joins a four others in an exquisitely written fantasy quest adventure. What did I think? I love […]

Potion Masters: The Eternity Elixir by Frank L. Cole

Potion Masters: The Eternity Elixir by Frank L. Cole

Good Enough to Fight Over! I won a copy of THE ETERNITY ELIXIR in a Facebook Giveaway. Which is awesome because I follow a lot of authors and I try to win books all the time, but I rarely do. The book just happened to arrive in the mail on a day I was tending two grandsons—one is 10 and the exact target audience. Here’s a photo of the two of them fighting over who gets to read it first. When the 6 year old […]

The Wrong Side of Magic by Janette Rallison

The Wrong Side of Magic by Janette Rallison

I am a HUGE fan of Janette Rallison! I love Janette Rallison as an author. I have loved every book that she’s written. So when I was contacted about doing a review for the release of The Wrong Side of Magic, of course I said YES! But. Then my day job went nuts and I haven’t had a chance to read it yet, which makes me sad. So instead of a review, I’m going to post a short excerpt from the book. And also tell […]

First Light by Michele Paige Holmes

First Light by Michele Paige Holmes

A Unique & Enchanting Mixed-Up Fairy Tale! I went into this blind. Other than knowing First Light was a Young Adult fairy tale romance by Michele Paige Holmes, an author I’ve previously enjoyed, I didn’t know what to expect. I was pleasantly entertained and enthralled throughout! First Light is not a straightforward retelling of a traditional fairy tale. There were some common elements—good and evil fairies, three wishes, a heroine who doesn’t know her true identity—but the way they were woven together made it fresh […]

Woven by Michael Jensen

Woven by Michael Jensen

A Delightful YA Fantasy! This is a wonderful Young Adult book, but Middle Graders and adults will enjoy it, too. It has classic fantasy elements, as well as lots of original ideas. I loved the magic system—with sorcerors, witches, and even ghosts. Filled with adventure and intrigue, I’d definitely place this in the epic fantasy category, but without the longer passages that sometimes bog down that category in books targeted to adult readers. This is great writing from two debut authors. I look forward to […]
