Electrician’s Code

Electrician’s Code

The Electrician’s Code by Clarissa Draper Evans & Blackwell #2 A good mystery with lots of redirection and twists. I flat out could not figure out how it all fit together until the author revealed it all. That rarely happens. A little gritty, language, some ick factor. But the writing and suspense is good. 4 stars.

The Bitter Season

The Bitter Season

The Bitter Season by Tami Hoag Kovac & Liska #6 I like the mystery and suspense of Tami Hoag’s books, but sometimes they are just too gorey. Like this one. And lots of language. I read it for a book club, but it will be awhile before I read another one. It just made me feel… icky. I should have waited for the Reader’s Digest version. But if you don’t mind that, the plot is pretty good and twisty. Cops Kovac and Liska are working […]

The Captive

The Captive

The Captive by Julie Coulter Bellon Griffin Force #1. Clean Romantic Suspense. I classify this as more romance than suspense, although there is plenty of both. If you are a fan of the genre, you’ll love this. I liked the basic plot line. The suspense part of this was good, with deceptions, twists and turns. The romance part just wasn’t for me. Don’t ask me to explain because I can’t. But if you’ve liked Julie Coulter Bellon’s other books, you’ll love this one. 🙂 Some […]

The Stranger’s Obituary

The Stranger’s Obituary

The Obituary Society by Jessica L. Randall Obituary Society #1 Cozy Mystery and more. Oh. My. Gosh. Loved this. Part mystery, part romance, part spooky ghosts. It needed a better proofreading, but that didn’t stop me from reading as fast as I could. I loved the characters and the plot. I could relate to the small town setting. I could revisit this town over and over again. In fact, I did. Loved it so much that as soon as I finished it, I immediately bought […]

Crime Seen

Crime Seen

Crime Seen by Michaelbrent Collings Freaky good! Collings writes too types of books:his scary, haunted demon stuff (which I can’t read) and his freaky, twisted, psycho stuff, that usually has a paranormal element but it’s not so bad that it doesn’t scare me. (Too much.) This is the latter. A detective who can’t quite tell what’s real and what’s not. Great characters, great plot, awesome twists and turns. A little on the gritty side, some violence and swearing. 4 stars.

Pimpernel

Pimpernel

Pimpernel by Sheralyn Pratt (Hoping this will be a series.) Clean romantic suspense. Interesting characters, fast-paced, fun plot, awesome twists. Don’t try too hard to figure out the connection to the Scarlet Pimpernal. It’s there, but very loose. Just enjoy! Loved this book!!!! I’m totally geeking out over all the twists and turns. Surprised me so many times. 4 1/2 stars.

His Right Hand

His Right Hand

His Right Hand by Mette Ivie Harrison Linda Wallheim Mystery #2 A pretty good twisty thriller. I thought it was well-written, not preachy, and very compassionate. And freaky twisty. I didn’t guess the end until just before it was revealed. I like that. While we’re dealing with an amateur sleuth, this is not exactly a cozy mystery. There are some disturbing parts. This does have LDS content, in that it is based in an LDS ward, and Linda is the wife of a bishop, but […]

Lie Catchers

Lie Catchers

Lie Catchers by Paul Bishop First book in a presumed series. As a professional typesetter and editor, I cringed frequently throughout this book. However, the story was great. If you like police procedurals with a little twist, this is a good one. Fast-paced, interesting plot, two detectives with special psychic abilities working together to solve murders. Some swearing & violence, but not over the top. 4 1/2 stars.

Betrayed

Betrayed

Betrayed by Ronda Gibb Hinrichsen A historical suspense set in 1851, Niagara Falls, New York. Two stories— Penny, whose family is murdered, and Julia, who may not really know the man she loves. I love the was they stories twist together. There were a couple of plot gaps where I had some questions, but the twist at the end was pretty cool and unexpected. 4 stars.

Ring of Remaliha

Ring of Remaliha

Ring of Remaliha by Melanie Mason Suspense/International Crime. Loved the basic story line, but would have liked it written a little tighter. Slow at times. Liked it well enough to read a sequel, if there is one. Some violence. Can’t remember if there’s swearing or not, but if so, it’s mild. 3 1/2 stars.

Spotlight

Spotlight

Spotlight by Traci Hunter Abramson Saint Squad #9. The books in this series are loosely connected. I think it’s best if you read them in order, but it’s not absolutely necessary. Romantic suspense. Movie star + Navy SEAL. A little predictable, but great if you’re a fan of the genre. Contains some LDS (religious) content. 3 1/2 stars

Failsafe

Failsafe

Failsafe by Traci Hunter Abramson. Romantic suspense. A clean thriller—with spies, secret identities, and betrayal. And a little romance thrown in. Slow in a few spots, but otherwise a great read. 4 stars
