four-stars

Bridal consultant Laurie Fletcher spends her time helping others prepare for the most special day of their lives.

Will true love ever come her way, or is she doomed to watch others get their happily ever after?

And Something Blue is the first in the Main Street Merchants series of short romance novels—all featuring a business located on Main Street in the fictional town of Aspen Ridge, Colorado. The Main Street Merchants series is part of the Sweet & Clean Romance Collection from Trifecta Books.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Trifecta Books has just started a Sweet & Clean Romance Collection which includes And Something Blue from the Main Street Merchants series. Set in the small town of Aspen Ridge, Colorado, the series will feature love stories by author Paige Timothy and will involve the owners and employees of the shops on Main Street.

For me to really enjoy a romance, there must be more to the story. I prefer romance to be the backdrop, and if it’s not then the characters have to be fun and engaging, and the writing has to be clever.

I had a couple of days taken up with doctor visits—you know, more waiting than actual visiting—and I had my Kindle with me. I wanted something light and easy to read and this novella fit the bill perfectly.

And Something Blue follows the traditional romance storyline with very few surprises. You know from page one who Laurie (the main character) will end up with, but it was the journey that thrilled me. The fun and clever dialog and characters had me laughing out loud in the waiting room. More than once.

Here is just one example that made me chuckle, occurring when Laurie got a brooch tangled in her hair:

Logan’s swift fingers had her separated from the brooch within seconds. Well, sure—that’s because he could see what he was doing. She could have done that if it wasn’t stuck on the side of her head where she didn’t have eyeballs.

I loved Laurie. I enjoyed her personality—from her constant falling around the cute lawyer (the ‘Logan’ from above), to her smart determination, to her willingness to set aside first impressions and give the guy another chance. And I absolutely loved when she outwitted him at his own game!

The minor characters were fun too. I’m sure her roommates—all of them accomplished women working on Main Street—will have their own stories and I look forward to them, as well as a few other Main Street characters who I found intriguing.

A series of this type can become predictable and tiring, but based on this first story and how much my laughing annoyed the other people in the waiting room, I think Paige Timothy can pull it off.

I recommend And Something Blue to anyone who wants a fun, clever quick romance!
